Corsham 2K Pre Event Race Brief
Hello 2K Runner
Race day, Sunday 24th April, is fast approaching and the 2K Team is looking forward to welcoming you to this year’s event. Here is some important information which will help you to have an enjoyable experience.
Registration will open from 8:00am. Please come early to allow plenty of time to collect your race number at the Heywood gazebo, which will be located near to the entrance to the Football Club and close to the trailer stage. Do have a look at the schematic race village plan which will be available at www.corsham10k.co.uk and as posters on the day. Remember that there will be no parking along the Lacock Road (not at the Football Club or Rugby Club or any other place) as it will be closed to all traffic from 8:45am until 12:30pm.
At registration your parent or responsible adult will need to write their mobile number, and any other important information, on the back of your race number. That person will need to stay and to have that mobile on for the duration of the race. Whilst all this is happening, there will be the opportunity for you to have your face painted by volunteers from the charity Time Is Precious.
Please be at the stage for a few words of welcome at 8:40am and then the warm up at 8:45am, led once again by Will Edwards of First Step UK gym. The shepherd marshals and sweeper (who will run the race amongst you) will join you in this warm up, and your parent or responsible adult is also welcome to join in. There is plenty of space, so please make sure that you distance appropriately. After it has finished, everyone will head to the start line together, crossing the Lacock Road and walking a short distance into the Park.
At the start, there will be age group signs to help you choose an appropriate place to stand; these mirror the trophy award age groups. There is, of course, no disadvantage to being further back, since your timing chip will activate as you cross the line. You will see that the width of the mat matches the width of the path, and barriers and tape will define the area. This makes for a smooth getaway and enhanced viewing for parents and other spectators who are asked to be considerate in maintaining space and avoiding any crush. If you are part of a mixed age team, start and shepherd marshals will help you choose your positions. Please spread out as much as possible, to ensure everyone’s safety, as covid is still amongst us. And remember that only those with a race number will be able to run the course!
The race will start promptly at 9:00am. The shepherd marshals and sweeper will be ready to help you make the most of your race, and the marshals along the route will be waiting to cheer and guide you along.
The finish gantry will be in the Lacock Road. Photos will be taken as you cross the line and you will be able to view, and purchase, these after the event. Once you have finished, you will be awarded your medal and go the table where you can collect your goody bag. Water will also be available. Please check your bag for a special token which will enable you to collect a treat from a table close to the 10K t shirt collection point! The meeting point is on the (closed) Lacock Road just behind the goody bag table, so your responsible adult and other supporters will be able to see you cross the finish line. A large sign will mean it will be easily found. Please do not leave this area until you have linked up with your adult.
The presentation of trophies will take place on the stage as soon as possible after the finish – race timers DBMax are usually very quick, and we are aiming not to tarry unduly. So please listen for an announcement that this is about to begin, and come to cheer those who are receiving awards, or perhaps collect one yourself.
At the moment, the forecast shows that we may have a bit of a shower! Please keep an eye on it over the next few days, and come suitably dressed and prepared. It would be a good idea for your responsible adult to have a warm layer, and perhaps a waterproof, ready for you at the meeting point.
I’m looking forward to seeing you on the day and wish you a great run.
With best wishes,
Gill Fox 😊
